CALL TO ORDER

Mayor Van Minsel called the May 7, 2024 Regular Council Meeting to order at 6:00PM.

It was acknowledged that this meeting was held on the traditional territory of the Syilx/Okanagan People.

Mayor Van Minsel announced that Ian Cummings will be joining the District of Peachland as the new Fire Chief on Monday, May 27, 2024.

  Councillor Ingram reminded Council that the PCSR Task Force meets tomorrow for the Climate Ambassador training session with Dr. Mary Stockdale from 2:00 - 5:00 PM. An invitation was extended to Council and Administration.

Provincial Housing Legislation Update_Small-scale, Multi-unit Housing (SSMUH) and Bill 44

Director of Planning, Darin Schaal introduced Daniel Sturgeon from the consulting firm Urban Systems to provide this update:

• Displayed a PowerPoint presentation
• Provided an overview of Bill 44, Housing Statutes (Residential Development) Amendment Act
• Explained how Bill 44 specifically affects Peachland
• Re-zoning Bylaw will be introduced in a Report to Council in early/mid June
• Responded to questions from Council

  THAT Council approve the draft December 31, 2023, Audited Financial Statements as presented; and

  FURTHER THAT Council authorize the Mayor and Chief Financial Officer to sign The Corporation of the District of Peachland December 31, 2023, Audited Financial Statements.

MAYOR AND COUNCIL REPORTS

Councillor Ingram attend the Walk for Wellness yesterday.

Councillor Glasman attended the SILGA conference last week. A number of the sessions were very informative and a full report will be forthcoming.

Cllr Condon:

• Question to Councillor Ingram regarding the climate change information package received by Council.

  THAT Council move In Camera at 7:15PM to discuss a matter under Community Charter s.90(1)(K) - negotiations and related discussions respecting the proposed provision of a municipal service that are at their preliminary stages and that, in the view of the council, could reasonably be expected to harm the interests of the municipality if they were held in public.
